What Keeps the Treasurer Up at Night?

John B. Carroll, Treasurer, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community
John has over 30 years of financial management experience most recently serving as Treasurer for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community since 2012. At SRPMIC, the Treasurer serves as a fiduciary for the Community’s investments, as tax collector for transaction privilege (sales) taxes and possessory interest (property) taxes and monitors the Community’s investments in various for-profit enterprises owned by the Community including Casino Arizona, Talking Stick Resort, Salt River Devco, Salt River Fields, Phoenix Cement Company, Salt River Sand and Rock, Saddleback Communications, Salt River Landfill, Talking Stick Golf Course and Scottsdale AutoShow at Salt River.
In addition John has extensive treasury management experience earned working for multi-billion dollar public companies as V.P. Treasurer for Meritage Homes, Assistant Treasurer for The Hertz Corporation and Director of Finance for Sony Corporation of America. Originally from New Jersey, John relocated to Arizona in 2006 to work for Meritage Homes. John is a licensed CPA in the State of New Jersey, has an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting from Clemson University. In addition, John earned the Certified Treasury Professional (“CTP”) designation from the Association of Financial Professionals organization and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
